Eating Disorders

A stack of stones near the shoreline.

From early childhood we are taught that looks matter. Popular magazines in which waif like models grace the pages, together with diet advertisements only serve to compound the problem.

While these images are counterproductive to a healthy self image they are not the reason individuals develop an eating disorder. Eating disorders are complex. If you have negative coping skills and are unable to cope with your emotions and stress, have low self esteem and underlying issues, the media will play a contributing role towards your eating disorder.

Individuals who suffer with eating disorders may have a genetic susceptibility and develop self destructive behaviours as a reaction to fear of loss of control. Someone who is a perfectionist, or constantly worries about body image and weight may have a history of anxiety, depression or substance abuse in the family.

An eating disorder is the symptom of an underlying problem. If the underlying dynamics are addressed, the eating disorder will be alleviated.  Hypnotherapy gains access to your subconscious mind which knows the origin of the problem.
